At Pollen Peddlers Apiary, we’re committed to offering safe, humane, and effective methods for working with honeybees, especially when it comes to apitherapy. Whether you’re an experienced practitioner or just beginning your journey, using CO₂ to gently calm your bees before a session can make a big difference—for both you and the bees.

One of our most popular tools, the Therapy Dream Pod, was designed to support ethical handling during bee venom therapy. But it’s the way you use it—with CO₂—that makes all the difference.

🧠 Why CO₂? The Science Behind Calming Bees Safely

CO₂ (carbon dioxide) is widely used in research and therapy to sedate bees gently. When administered properly:

  • It acts as a fast and reversible anesthetic: Bees typically fall asleep in 15 seconds and wake within 1–2 minutes.

  • It suppresses their metabolism, reducing stress during handling.

  • It avoids the downsides of cold sedation, which can prolong stress and recovery.

  • It’s safer than chemical alternatives, as it leaves no residue and wears off quickly.

Bees exposed to a single short burst of CO₂ typically show no long-term effects, making it one of the most humane and efficient methods for preparing bees for therapy.

🛑 Note: Repeated exposure or extended use can be harmful. CO₂ should only be used once per bee per session.

Step-by-Step: How to Use the Dream Pod with CO₂

🛠 Step 1: Prepare the CO₂ Dispenser

Ensure your CO₂ system is assembled and safe:

  • Insert the needle or nozzle into the dispenser.

  • Carefully align the CO₂ cartridge and screw in slowly.

  • Stop once you feel resistance. Do not over-tighten.

🐝 Step 2: Load the Mini-Pod

  • Remove the rubber bands from your mini-pod of bees.

  • Place the mini-pod gently into your Therapy Dream Pod.

💨 Step 3: Administer CO₂

  • Locate the small port on the side of the Dream Pod.

  • Insert the needle and slowly press the trigger.

  • Let the gas flow for 5–7 seconds.

  • Cover the hole briefly with your finger after dispensing.

  • Bees will calm when their abdomens stop moving.

✨ Step 4: Retrieve the Bees

  • Open the Dream Pod and then the mini-pod.

  • Use reverse tweezers to gently grasp each bee by the thorax.

  • Only remove the bees you need—never reuse bees that have been exposed to CO₂.

🏡 Step 5: Store Remaining Bees Safely

  • Reseal the mini-pod and return it to a cool, stable environment.

  • Begin your therapy session with confidence.
